Which Resole Option Do I Need?
Not sure which option to choose? This guide will help you decide between:
- Standard Resole
- Standard Resole + Rand Repair
- Let Dao Resole Decide
We inspect every pair before starting. If your shoes need a different repair than the one you selected, we will contact you first.
1. Rand and Sole
The rand wraps around the front and sides of the shoe, creating tension in the shoe.
The sole is attached to the rand and makes contact with climbing foot holds.
The sole is designed to wear out. The rand is not.
2. Choose Your Resole Option
2.1 Standard Resole
Choose this if:
The sole is worn, but the rand around the toe is still healthy.
Look for:

thin rubber at the toe (a rounded or worn rubber edge)

no damage above the sole line
- rand rubber still feels firm
What we do
We remove the worn outsole rubber and fit fresh climbing rubber appropriate for your shoe.
This is the ideal time to resole. It retains the original tension from the shoes, and it's the cheapest!
2.2 Standard Resole + Rand Repair
Choose this if:
The sole has worn through, and the rand rubber around the toe is also worn down, but the fabric underneath is still intact.
Please note: Shoes with large holes, such as holes big enough for your pinky to pass through, cannot be repaired.
Look for:
- thin or damaged rand rubber, with wear extending above the sole line
- fabric that is close to showing around the toe
- the rand rubber beginning to make contact with footholds while climbing
What we do
We first repair the damaged rand and reinforce the toe area using a toe patch. Then we fit the new sole just as we would with a Standard Resole.
Rand repair costs more because the damaged rand area needs additional work, before the new sole rubber can be fitted.
2.3 Let Dao Resole Decide
Choose this if:
You are not sure whether the rand is damaged.
We will inspect your shoes when they arrive and decide whether they need:
- Standard Resole
- Standard Resole + Rand Repair
If the required repair changes the price, we will contact you before starting any additional paid work.
If in doubt, choose this option.
3. Shoes We Cannot Resole
At the moment, we do not accept:
- Climbing shoes with a hole through the fabric

No-edge climbing shoes, such as the La Sportiva Futura, Mantra, Genius, and Mandala.
Rand damage can often be repaired, but once the underlying fabric has worn through, the shoe is beyond the type of repair we currently offer.
We are also not offering resoles for no-edge shoes at this time. We will add no-edge resoling in the future as the lab capabilities and manufacturer certifications expand.

4. What If I Choose the Wrong Option?
Don’t worry.
We inspect every pair before starting.
If you choose Standard Resole and we find that the rand also needs repair, we will contact you first.
We will not carry out additional paid work without your approval.
